Product Studio Updates to Improve Background Image Generation for Shopping Ads

By Travis Box

With competition heavy in the Shopping Ad environment it's mission critical to make sure your product listing will stand out. The quickest way to do this is visually ensure the PLA catches the eye - especially when you are competing against other retailers selling the same product at similar price points. VersaFeed found that retailers using an AI-generated background image have enjoyed a 15% higher CTR compared to the plain white backgrounds with a 23% uptick in revenue attributed to the increase in traffic.

Google Merchant Center's Product Studio has a great way to do this and for now it's free and built directly into GMC. It currently does come with some manual and time consuming limitations, but Google has recently announced plans for some upgrades that will change the game and allow for more retailers to take advantage for these CTR and revenue gains and do it at scale.

The upcoming ability to select multiple products at once is particularly anticipated. Currently, products must be addressed individually, which can present a significant bottleneck. The new bulk selection feature, complete with helpful pre-configured categorizations such as "Top Seasonal products" or "new styles" (alongside the option for manual selection), will dramatically streamline workflows.

Beyond the efficiency gains, Product Studio is also becoming more versatile. Soon, users will have the option to upload their own "Scene style" files, which can then be applied as a consistent background across a selected product set. This level of customization and branding consistency represents a significant advantage.

Furthermore, for situations requiring quick, high-quality visuals, the "Generated for You" section will prove invaluable. This feature will offer pre-created product imagery and video that can be utilized as-is or easily edited to perfectly fit specific campaign needs.

VersaFeed is able to help with the implementation and can even facilitate an A/B test to help ensure the altered image is the right move.
